Candle box problem
First I wrote down all the provided information needed to solve this problem. Then found the surface are of the hexagonal prism and multiply by two because their is two of them. After I found the area of a rectangle and then multiplied by six because their is 6 and that's how you find the walls or rectangles. Then I added both of them together in order to get the whole area of prism. In order to find the out how much the wrapping cost I multiplied by $0.01. Next I found the surface area of the cylinder, that has two circles so when you find the area of a circle make sure two multiply by two and it has a rectangle. Then minus the surface area of the cylinder from the hexagonal prism. Lastly I multiplied 15 by $.2 to find the 20%, and added it all together and that's how I got $24.

Candle Box Probem

In order to figure out the total cost of your candle ready to ship you must first find the surface area of the hexagonal prism or wrapping. To do so you must first find the area of the two bases using the formula A= 1/2ap. Once you find the area of one base you have to multiply it by 2 since there are two bases. After you do this you have to find the area of the the walls or rectangles around the outside using the formula A=bh. Once you have the area of the bases and the rectangles, add them together to find the area of the entire prism. You then have to multiply this equation by $0.01 to find out how much the wrapping costs.
Next you have to find the area of the cylindrical box the candle and wrapping are placed inside of. To do so you have to find the area of the bases using the formula for the area of a circle. Don't forget to multiply by two. You then have to find the area of the outer wall using A=bh. the base length for this rectangle is the same as the circumference of the base circle. Add these two together to get the area of the entire cylinder. Considering that the inside of the cylinder is hollow, you must subtract the areas of the hexagons from the previous problem from the cylinder and add the areas of the 6 rectangles on the prism. After you do so, multiply that equation by $0.02 to find the cost of the box itself.

What I had to do to solve this candle box problem was know the formula on how to solve for the surface area of the prism. My first step was getting one of the hexagonal and draw it separate from the rest with the information given. The information given was that the diameter was 6 cm and the height was 10 cm. You would have to section out the hexagon to 6 triangles and draw one right triangle to the side with the hypotenuse being 3 cm because the hypotenuse is like the radius. So then you have a special right triangle of 30, 60 ,90 so to find the short leg you have to divide the hypotenuse by 2 so you would have the short leg as 2\3. To find the long leg you have to multiply the short leg by the √3 and you get 3√3 \2. The formula to find the area of the hexagon is A=(a)(p)\2 so you would do (3√3)(18)\2 and the answer would be 27√3 but you would have to multiply that by 2 because there are 2 bases. So the final answer for the hexagon is A=27√3. However there is also 6 rectangles and to find the area of the that you have to do A=bh and the height of the rectangle is 10 and the base is 3. So it would be 3x10 and that would equal 30 but then you have to multiply that by 6 because there are 6 rectangles and you would get A=180. So the final answer for the surface area of the prism = (27√3 +180)cm^2. But since the thin paper costs $.01 you would multiply that by the answer and the total is 2.27.

Then you would add the area of the rectangle A=bh and that would be A=(6π) (10) and you would get 60πcm^2 and your total answer is 78πcm^2. But then you have to multiply that by $.02 because that is what the second box costs. You're total answer will be 3.7.

After you find the area of the cylinder which you find area of a circle since there's two you times it by two then you find the area of the rectangle an add them so that would be the area of the circle. Then you times the whole area of the thin box by .01 to find how much it cost then you multiply the area of the second box by .02 to see how much that would cost and then find 20% of $15 an then add both of the cost of both boxes and the 20% of $15 and you get $24
